You make my sun shine

It's been a beautiful December thus far.
The sun is shining and our lives are full of Christmas cheer, friends and family.

This month at LDRS Creative, I'm using "Friendship is the Sweetest"
Because it is the sweetest but also because the Christmas season is about others.
I've always gotten such a joy doing for others.
It really brings such a warmth to my soul.

The light in the sky

The Aurora Borealis is one of the most stunning sights.
Think you can't recreate that beauty?
Think again...
This month's challenge at Make it Crafty is just that.

I used this image and created a template in a shape to "block" out the lighter shades.
Using my air system, I sprayed B24 lightly into the the areas.
Moving the template by 1/4 inch, I sprayed with BG13.
Repeating this process with B02, BG11.
Once I had a good portion covered and a nice shaped beginning; I used a variety of B's and BG's by hand to feather flick some smaller, more random forms. Using my B0000 and BG0000; I blended the edges into the surrounding areas.
I continued this process until I achieved the look I wanted.
It was a lot of fun and something completely new that I would have never thought to try.

I hope you will give it a go as well.

Gift Bag Delight

Christmas Words

This one's in the bag...literally

Using the small "Jingle All the Way"
which is not small at all. :D

I colored the words using my copics: R46, B24, G09 and Gold Leafing pen.
Then I covered the copic portion with clear Stella Wink pen.

I knew I wanted to glitter emboss the snowflakes but then I found a few
snowflake embellishments that fit so I added those as well.
I then thought to add a little 3D action to other parts.
Using Crackle Glossy Accents I puffed up the Sled and Bells,
a Holly button fit perfectly on the bells and
a little 3D penquin sticker placed on the sled to ride along.
Finally, what's a jingle with no jingle?
I added some little bells tied along with embroidery thread.

I hope to see what you come up with using your Christmas Words.
Remember, you don't have to use SRTC products but you can
Win Some!!

Sleigh Ride

My youngest is obsessed with babies.
It's truly adorable.
So, this year when he started kindergarten it was fun to discover his teacher had a wee one.
Of course, the Christmas card for her had to represent for her little one.

I've colored the new MIC image Geeky Rascal Box Sleigh in girl tones.
Then added these perfect pieces from Southern Ridge Trading Company:
Small Reindeer and Snowflakes 713
The cutest little Jingle Bell Die from Whimsy
Finishing off with LDRS Creative Christmas and Winter Sentiment
Which btw are only $2 right now as well as tons of rubber.

Holiday Spirit

Hello all, it's been just over a year since I began with Southern Ridge Trading Company.
One thing that remains the same whether coloring, chipboard or anything in life;
  I like different.
Don't get me wrong, I learn loads from others but I like doing it my way.
With chipboard, there are endless ways to decorate the pieces.
I never stop looking for something new to do with them
last year, I did a video tutorial using glitter making ornaments.
This year, I wanted to revisit that and try a new technique; Foil Art.

I took lots of pic, sorry no video lol. that was nerve wracking and I stuttered and stumbled.

__________________________________________________________________________________

I used 3D ornaments with my foil art opal to start with.

 ________________________________________________________________________________

I cut my sheet just large enough to cover

 _________________________________________________________________________________

The directions of the foil art glue say to apply and let dry; up to 2 hours. After doing this, I lay the pieces together and pressed it down.

 _________________________________________________________________________________

Using my heat gun, I carefully heated to foil to help it adhere.

(I later found out the my flat iron works too)

___________________________________________________________________________________

Seriously gorgeous.

 _________________________________________________________________________________

Moving on to the bottom portion; I wanted to try some flock.
Keeping my ornament on the delicate side, I choose I pink, glittered version by Paper Studio

__________________________________________________________________________________

After applying glue and covering; gently burnish by rubbing with your finger to smooth it around and into all the areas.

__________________________________________________________________________________

One of my very favorite tools is this versamark pen. It's perfect for all the little areas I like to get into.

 _________________________________________________________________________________

It's so easy to apply the versamark just where I need it.
Like right here, on the ornaments top.

_________________________________________________________________________________

I use Zing embossing powder. I've chosen Gold Metallic
_________________________________________________________________________________

After heat setting this is my finished bottom
_________________________________________________________________________________

Totally Loved it so much, I went back and got another foil color.

Here's my finished products from different view. Metallic is a tough one to photograph.

These are perfect to add to a card for embellishments, Baby's first ornament tag, cover both sides and hang from YOUR tree and so much more.

I hope you enjoyed my little play and try it yourself. Let me know how you go with it. I am always welcome to ideas.

Mad About You!

Ever have an image that just calls to you?
It's like a personal challenge...
When I first began coloring, I'd see these colored images that were so wow.
Then I'd look at the line art and be like oh....it's digitally colored. I can't do that.
Then I had an idea. I began using the artist colored image to "teach" me how to "do that"
It's only paper right?
So if I don't get it, I keep trying.
This was one of those images I really wanted to capture in the artists version.
I used my chosen palate and recreated her in my style.
I really couldn't be more pleased.

Copics Used:
Skin: E04, 11, 00 ,000, 0000, R20, RV10 BV23
Hair, Black multiliner BR, N7, 5, 3, 2
Roses: Black Multiliner. R59, 29, 24, 20
Vines and leaves: YG99, 94, 93, 91
Crown/Butterfly: V99, 09, 06, 04
Y28, 26, 23
R59, 24 20
Polychromos Black and grey used for shading.

One thing I notice a lot is using the darkest color of your group for shadows.
You might find using a grey or slate blue works to create a more natural shadow.
I use BV23 on everything. Then if I need to tone it, I'll add BV20 and then the lightest color of that area to smudge it out just a super tiny bit.

What have you pushed your boundaries on lately?
You might find you like it :D
