MIC is sponsoring this challenge. When I read the post of MIC's FB page, I had to show my support

Here's what The Squirrel and the Fox has posted for this challenge
Challenge #57 - Use Violet
"Today we have a very special challenge for you, we are turning VIOLET for a fortnight in support of our lovely DT girl Mags B and her daughter Sacha, who is currently fighting Hodgkin's Lymphoma. We wanted to show our support during this difficult time, a hard thing to do from the other side of the world. Sacha, we wish you strength, courage and a fast recovery; you and your Mum are never far from our thoughts."
Here's my entry using Make it Crafty's  Fairy Twinkles
Wishing you the best Sacha.

I actually put the dimensions into my cutter and now I have a saved file to pull out anytime
I welded a MTC scallop border to the file and then recreated the border into one that works with
my created file
I added Christmas tree, free file. Again, broke and readapted for my needs and MTC snowman and cat file. I just took the cat out. Lastly, icicle svg

I've colored the image in copics.  the center cutout and tags are created with spellbinder dies.
Edging done with MS punch
Distressed the papers with vintage photo ink
ribbon and paper from stash.
It was a bit of work as I've never tried anything like it but I'm thrilled with the results
I've added travel size shampoo, conditioner, lotion to place in guest baths for visitors through the holidays
There's also a pull out tag to add a specialized sentiment.

muscle tone

Note: please scroll to bottom for challenge entry

At Make it Crafty, Zoe is having a challenge to use a "new" skin tone and to challenge ourselves, add muscle tone.
This seems to be a scary task.  I'm no muscle expert but my darling hubs is a fitness junky. As easy as it was for me to visualize how the muscles should be, transferring to paper was not so easy.
As I've chosen a darker skin tone, it became more difficult to get the results without going too dark.
So I've decided to do a step by step, so to speak, of how the tones are achieved.

Starting with the arms. One of Desiree's arms is held up by her face. Similar to the position of this lady. The woman is not actually flexing to create a sharp muscle so this is perfect example of typical muscle tone appearance on a small/medium frame

If you look a Desiree's arm in that position, the muscle cut will appear from her armpit angling down around the "belly" rounded  part of the bicep. There will be a slight definition from the elbow area rounding out the bicep at the top arm

Desiree's arm that is down, will have a very sharp, thin definition from the shoulder muscle. I would recommend using the tip of a pencil to achieve this line. If using pencil, remember to do so after using your copics as the wax can clog the nib this image, the woman's arms are more defined than Desiree but it will give a better idea of how the muscle can appear. As does the sketch to the left the leg, the quadriceps is the prominent muscle one will see more defined. It's going to be oval or elongated from the top leg then curving in at the knee. the image on the left is a great one to demonstrate this area at the knee.

Then, you would go in adding the shadows and more subtle definitions as seen the lighter shading. if you really want to beef up your character, here's some inspiration for that :)

Here's my finished image of Desiree. I will get her carded, up and ready with a better picture soon.
I hope this has helped ease your worries a bit.
As this was my first tutorial, I'd be thrilled if you'd leave some feedback or tips for future posts.
Thanks for stopping by.

Card added 11/12/13
Here's is my finished card
A nontraditional but totally cool Christmas Card

Colored in copics with prisma pencil. MS punch, other items from stash and my second go round with my new cutter :)  Still working on that...
