I am so excited to celebrate the release of these incredible dies.

I love to color and really struggle designing cards. BUT the side step card die totally made the card for me. It was a no brainer. They're so versatile, it was amazing. I love that I got a CAS card that looks so elegant.  I choose to use minimal embellishments to really showcase how beautiful the die is.  As it's ran through the machine, it cuts, pierces, embosses all in one go.  All I needed to do was fold the card up and attach my image. It took mere minutes.
That's when my mind started playing, I used my marker around the edges. Then took the nesting pieces and placed mounting foam to create a 3D effect. The piercing on each piece is so delicate.
I am in love and ready to play over and over to create so many designs.
I've got to have them all.

By DIEzyne Dies were created for the Color Artist.  As Color Artist we love to color most of all.  Making them into cards can be challenging.  With By DIEzyne it makes this part of designing easier!

BOO!!!

Every year my kiddos have a theme to their Halloween.

Maybe it's because I started them out that way.

One year, we were the Wizard of Oz characters

One year pirates,

One year superheros. You get the idea.

Well, this year I have failed.

My kiddos have come into their own and have all gone different directions.
The devastation!!! 

So, I decided to theme my frame that will hold our family picture.

I purchase the black frame.
Using cheesecloth, gesso and acrylic, I applied gesso to the cheesecloth
and dabbed it on the frame to give texture and lighten it up a bit.
Doing the same with the acrylic but covering less area.

 

 On the web, I've used black embossing power
 and then added Ranger Holographic embossing powder.

 

Versamark pen was used to draw where I wanted to roof and gates; then I embossed with purple metallic and copper glitter by Zing

Afterwards, I used Ranger DI to edge and emphasize the detail. Finally frantage was added.

 

The witch and black are black embossing

The text has red glitter emboss to give it a drippy effect.

BUT we had a deadline to color it up.

Well.....weekends are really hard for me with the kiddies at home but

I LOVED HER!!!

 

Now the house is a mess and the kids are swinging from the ceiling but I got it done.

All that Glitters

 

 This is a bit of a special post for me, it's my very first video tutorial

I stutter and repeat myself a lot so bear with me.

If you've watched the video, I'd suggest a quick scan of the information here as I may have forgotten to share it in the video.

I wanted to try some different ways to decorate chipboard

and I just loved how this worked out, I had to share.

 

I'm including the still shots with explanation as I know some may not be able to watch videos.

If you can, scroll on down and have a watch.

 

These are the pieces I'll be using today.

They are Xmas-155 from Southern Ridge Trading Co

 

  

Using a white acrylic paint, Not too thin,

paint a dry or light layer down. Get the edges; inside and out.

Make sure not to have too much paint or your chipboard can warp. 

 

You can skip this step and the effect you have will be an antique looking finish

as the chipboard color will darken the colors.

I wanted my color to be brighter and therefore needed the white base.

 

You'll need to let it dry completely before moving on.

 

If you are creating a tree or package ornament, you will repeat the step on the other side.

Allow to dry first.

hanging the piece as you work may effect the outcome.

 

 

Next, you're going to add your thin, dry layer of liquid glue.

making sure to cover the entire surface.

Do not put your glue in the edges here

 

Use a paper or glitter tray to catch the extra glitter

Pour your Elizabeth Craft Design microfine glitter over top,

I'm using Cool Diamond

 shake off excess.

Let dry completely.

 

This glitter is created to use in coloring with any alcohol based markers and will not harm your pens

  

Once dry take a soft paintbrush, brushing to remove remaining loose glitter

ECD has a video demonstrating this entire technique with coloring, using their sticky paper.

With the glue, the polishing is not necessary.

You're ready to color up in your favorite combos.

 

This is actually a snowflake but I immediately saw red berries, leaves and the floral center.

So many possibilities. Go wild!

 

Once complete, you can run a metallic embroidery floss or thin ribbon through.
Adhere to card or package or hang from tree.

Sit back and gaze upon your beautiful embellishment or ornament.

Enjoy yourself and have fun.

Welded words, tags, scene designs, miniatures...

I could go on but you should definitely check them out.

 

 Now for me, I've not used a lot of chipboard pieces so I thought...I'll start slow.

Now I can't stop. I am having such a blast with them.

I'll hush now and show you my project.

Using Tim Holtz DI, I've distressed the edge then taking decoart snow writer,

I've added a bit of snow on top. I just love how it looks

 

 

Well I said I started slow but what a great embellishment for my Make it Crafty image

 I've got something super cool coming up next week with some new chipboard.

I can't believe how versatile these tags and all the products are.

I'm going to have a lot of fun with these gems.

 

Do WHAT with WHAT?

Hello Friends,

I come to you today from under the table. Yep, still hiding...

 



 

I'm sure you've noticed that we no longer have an easy option available in our challenges at

Make it Colourful.

I love this because I LOVE a challenge. It really pushes us out of our comfort zone.

It inspires a growth mindset

And lets be honest, why would one NOT want to learn?

 

This month, Zoe says, I'd like you girls to try Biros...

Huh?

Ohhhhh, Ball point pens....Ok :)

Well, Kay took to this like she's been doing it her whole life and the rest of us...

Some were kicking and screaming.

Some struggled.

We tried over and over and over again.

Lots were tossed with the garbage.

Then... some gorgeous colorings started to appear from the group.

 

In the end, we made it through and I must say,

while I'm not super thrilled with mine, I'm so happy to have done it

Most importantly, I am going to make some time to keep working this.

Why? Because the effects is breathtaking and because it's a challenge...

 

I tried several attempts and this was the first solid image I did.

I really struggled with what to do: the highlighting, added other colors to create effects etc.

 

Finally, i decided to go simple and instead of trying to "color" with hatching and straight lines,

I tried to emphasize and move with the image (yeah, I know, I'm dramatic)

With this one, I followed the lines of the image with black;

cross hatching in the shadows with a bit of blue.

Then, adding orange and a touch of yellow in the window for a glow.

Finally, I took some alcohol on a blender pad and smeared it up a bit to soften the pen edging.

It also helped to smoke up the sky.

 

 

My final piece; I added more black and blue in the shadows,

toned down the orange and inked the edges.

All in all, it was SPOOKY...But I made it out alive and have grown because of it.

 

Let's see what you do..I encourage you to try the pens.

If that's more than you want to bite off: any medium that you've been nervous to use

 

Remember, it's not going to start out great (unless your Kay) and it may not end up what you think it should be but you'll never know if you don't try.

The most important thing is to enjoy it.
