Australian Flora

Australian Flora - New Release & Hop!

Hello and welcome to our first blog hop for 2016.

Today we are excited to be sharing a new release of beautifully illustrated Australian flora digital images from Make it Crafty. They are intricate and delicate with lots of detail and are the perfect choice for many occasions.

You can find these stunning floral images HERE

Today is Australia Day.
Zoe's decided to have images made of flowers native to Australia.
They are all so beautiful and hard to chose which one to color.
I decided to go with the Wattle Flower.
When I first saw the lineart, I anticipated it being like cotton puffs.
It's not like that at all.
The Wattle flower has the softest, pale yellow puffs.
It's so delicate, it almost looks like yellow cotton candy.
LOVE it!!!

Winter Goddess

Wow,it's really cold here the last few day.
So, while we are celebrating winter over at SRTC
I've chosen to use a precolored image from The Paper Shelter
I've printed the whole image with background, then printed only the image;
a bit smaller than the other to create a nice 3D.
For my gorgeous Winter chipboard pieces; I've chosen
one of the snowflakes is covered in blue embossing glitter. The other
is done is holographic powder.
The wreath is covered in pearl acrlyic paint with just a little subtle extra on a few areas.
I hope you're staying warm where you are.

Peacocks all a glow

Have you ever noticed how much the feathers of a peacocks shimmer?
I'm sure you have. I know I have.
I just love how nature produces such wonders
I set myself a challenge to "try" and replicate the shimmer of the Peacock.
I'm quite thrilled with it.
Sadly, this is one of those instances that the picture doesn't capture the effect.

I used Derwent Inktense pencils to get both; the nice blended look and the controlled paint stroke.
The colors used:
Bird: Deep Indigo, Sea Blue, Dark Aquamarine
Felt Green, Apple Green, Sherbert Lemon
Prisma Verithin Black
Leaves: Vivid Green, Iron Green
Branch: Bark, Madder Brown, Willow, Amber, Tan
Flowers: Fuchsia,
Twinkling H2Os in Blue Zircon, Mustard Green, Sweet Alfalfa

Beautiful Birds in Winter

Yes, Macaws can thrive in winter if they are acclimated to it.
How amazing would it be to see with the snow all around?

I love coloring birds.
Although I don't believe I've ever combined a DT Challenge, this one went perfect together.
 MiC challenge is "Feathers"
Using one of the gorgeous new Beautiful Birds

Colored up with Copics
R39, 17, 14
B18, 16, 14
Edges were distressed and Inked then frantage added.
Adding some "Winter" Pine Cones with frantage to keep in theme of our challenge at SRTC.
I also added some Maple Branch.
I know, leaves in Winter?
Well, we've just returned from AZ and I promise they have full leaved trees.
On the leave, I've drawn in some veining then inked the edges for shadow.
Finally adding some gesso with a brush to add some snow.
I also added a bit of MiC flourish called Floral Swirls.
